The interior here is very nice, with wooden floors and a lot of plants. Same with the bathrooms. Our waitress was very kind and helpful. Unfortunately the food was pretty low grade. We ordered off the lunch menu and none of us finished our plates. It was on par with fast food. I could see why this place would be popular as a bar and lounge but don't come here if you're looking for a nice meal.

Super friendly staff, everyone was happy to assist each other. Interior lacks an appeal for feeling anything but worn out. It was interesting to see the old pictures of the city on the walls. Food wise it's fair, not fabulous but not awful. Satisfied our need to eat and by the way it was the only place still open that's why we ate here. Even had dessert which was pie, not a good idea the Marion berry was straight from a can tasting so don't order that. Otherwise I'd say if you have no other options eat here if you have time to find something else do it.

We haven't eaten here in years so we thought we'd give it a try on our recent visit to the beach. Our server was very nice she greeted us immediately and got our beverages she came back promptly to take our order. However, when the food came my hamburger steak was burnt it I had asked for no mushrooms but they were mushrooms on it. The server said she could take it back but me being the one to hate to waste food I said I would pick them off. It had a black gravy of sorts on it and I didn't notice that the burger was Burnt until I bit into it. It tasted like charcoal. My husband been ordered the spaghetti meatballs and he said it tasted like it had been reheated over and over again and it also tasted funny especially the meatballs. So will never eat here again we came to that conclusion. What sealed the remote fate that we might return, we saw another male server use a towel on the floor to clean up a spill and then turn around and wipe off a table disgusting they should be reported end of rant $36 for nothing.

Good simple food. Wait staff friendly and attentive. Coffee cup never empty. Ham omelet had nice chunks of ham. Hubby had the breakfast special with French Toast and said it was good. Not crowded like most breakfast spots in the area.

As far as Lincoln City goes, there is some fine dining, sometimes at inns, lots of fast food outlets, and then some stand-alone locales. Of all of these, Maxwell's is among the best known and it stays open fairly late, so you can pop in for a late dinner. Except for one indecisive guy working there who didn't know what to do when people walked in, such as acknowledging them, the waitresses took the bull by the horns and got people seated. The waitress at the table was really thorough, right down to which color of turkey meat was preferred. I can say that departing from the typical fish and chips, which they do very well, was a good decision. The turkey dinner was delicious. The people working there are also very adept at giving patrons suggestions on what to do and see in the area. This place is old school, dated, slightly nautical, and totally unpretentious. It's a seafood and comfort food joint with a bar attached. If you're not a food snob and you are looking for value (good sized portions for a decent price), I recommend Maxwell's in Lincoln City found right on 101 in the center of town. It has been there for ages.

Because it was near the beach house we were staying at and their menu on the coast restaurant guide was on page 4, looked tempting, we tried it. They make their kids meal mac n cheese from scratch and their hot chocolate came with whipped cream. The kids loved it. They have an extensive menu. I had their sampler platter and this capitalizes on all the great seafood. No need to make one choice. I had razor clams, oyster, shrimp and scallops. The breading was thick but after I peeled it off, it was good. Not oversalted. Quaint.

The food was mediocre. Early bird was rush hour. We did not get all we ordered. Never got the hot bread that was suppose to come with the meal. Husband was glad he got small chicken fried STK early bird instead of larger size regular meal. Not world famous like the sign states. I over heard the people ask for their bread and then said there food was cold. The lady said after waitress left "this used to be a good place to eat." Pass on by!!!

Best Fish and Chips ever! Not able to give it 5 stars because they did not have "Fat Tire" beer :( Parking was simple as there is a public lot just around the corner.

The quality has significantly dropped over years with fresh food gone into frozen reheated food. The service is bad too. Overall quality is down in dumps.

Maxwell's is an institution in Lincoln City but it was better a few years ago than now. I had breakfast there and I should have known by nobody being there that the food must not be too great. I ordered eggs medium that were runny, hash browns that tasted like they were fried with the clams. Bacon was decent and the prices fare but I won't keep going back unless something changes for the good.

Came here for a bachelorette party for our first night. Had a blast!! There was another bachelorette party the same night. It was like battle of karaoke bachelorette style. I give props to all the workers there that night. It was all 90's pop bands! The service was great & everyone was super nice! The second night we ended up going bar to dance at the casino to dance & somehow ended up back here. Both nights were so much fun!

This place has amazing food, but we had the worst service ever. It took us 20 minutes just to get the check. Our food also got brought out all at different times.

We had an exceptionally great time here last weekend.came to sing karaoke and the people were very nice! My husband, and old crooner loved singing Frank Sinatra songs and we all joined in with the famous Red Sox song always sang in between the 7th and 8th inning at every game a Fenway Park, It was a fine time!

Randomly stopped here as we picked two other places and one had a 40 min wait and the other was closed. Turns out we came here a few years ago; what are the odds? We had a standard breakfast; all was fine and inexpensive. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Its 12:45 pm on Saturday and the place is dead. If you want a decent breakfast without a wait and a low price, this is a good choice.

Bad service came in around midnight the place was not even busy the waitress said it would be about 20 minute wait she was very rude bad customer service we left went to McDonald's lol

We were a hungry bunch of people trying to find grub at 10 in the night at Lincoln City and Maxwell rescued us, which means I'd be biased (a hungry helper always is). The place had a definite small town vibe to it and we dived into the free salad right away. Not only was the manager/owner warm and accommodating, she provided extra servings of their baked bread. I ordered fetuccine while my friends got chicken fajita and both were yum. Downside: portion size could be more (again, hungry yelpers!!)

Went in on a Saturday night had to wait 10 minutes for a table while there were 3 open and cleared off. Finally was seated and the waiter walked by and said I hope you feel like waiting. Worst service ever! Then to top it off most of the food was cold. I won't go back.

Walked in at lunchtime on a weekday, was seated, and then ignored for 15 minutes. Which is fine, there wasn't much on the menu that I was excited about - I think i was hoping for seafood. Anyways, after 15 minutes (the restaurant was EMPTY. this wasn't an issue of resources) I walked out. Past my waitress, past the hostess. Upshot? I got the best shrimp tacos across the street.

First off, let me just say that I routinely ingest a great deal of poisons and pollutants on a regular basis, both willingly and unwillingly, to give an indication of my tolerance for material not intended for consumption. I went, absurdly, tragically, unforgivably hungover, to Maxwell's At the Coast with four friends in similar states looking for as much relief as a greasy diner can provide. In some ways it did not disappoint; the coffee was more than potable, the bloody mary was enjoyably salty, the menus were curiously wet, the bathroom provided the privacy and minimal comforts needed to properly exorcise the toxins from a hellish night of binge drinking, and the salad did as much as I wanted it to do. BUT Breakfast special #2 Let me just say in my defense, I PANICKED. I was intending to order the fish and chips, but circumstances went way way way way against me and at the last moment, when "Server #44" asked what I wanted, the thoughts exuded by my drink-addled mind coalesced into a reasonable justification for the existence of a shrimp, crab, mushroom, and swiss omelet that went something like this, "Someone confident enough to put together these ingredients MUST be competent enough to form it into something edible, and since I robbed myself of the opportunity to gorge myself on all-you-can-eat shrimp by being 86'd from the casino I should avail myself of this chance to enjoy some fine seafood dining in a coastal town." As a counterpoint to the dialogue in my head I will now show you the thought process that actually led to this wound in the fabric of reality, "Fuck, these canned salad shrimp expire TODAY, and the dumpster is too full to cram anymore of this fungal paste. Perhaps if I wrap it in a haggard jowl of egg someone will consume it before noticing they're eating literal garbage. Hmm... But surely anyone not in a coma will have an immediate violent reaction to the cruel flavors I'm subjecting them to, what could I do to trick them into thinking this is edible? Maybe I could mask it with a strong, pungent cheese. Yeah, and then the melty mouth feel can ease them into the horrifying textural journey they're unwittingly about to embark upon." IT DID NOT GO ACCORDING TO PLAN The swiss cheese, instead of masking the potent "This Is Everything Your Brain Is Wired To Reject To Keep You Alive" flavor, it blended with it, perfectly accentuating each note of this symphony of hate to the taste bud. Somehow, I was able to dilute the the poison filling my mouth, using beverages and toast, enough to swallow the solitary bite I had. It was an ordeal, but I knew that if I spat it back onto my plate it would hinder the mild enjoyment I could get from my hashed browns. Most of the rest of the meal was spent seeing how long we could endure the stench from the omelet's maw when its stiff egg flap was opened. There are times when I expect my food to be a Cronenberg nightmare that makes me long for the extermination of biological life, but I do like those experiences to be advertised as such, and not sprung on me while I'm trying eat my way out of the previous night's poor decisions. Any omelet that makes you look forward to the age of machines is really more of a statement piece than fortifying breakfast fare, and should be experienced alone under harsh fluorescent light in a bare room, for either considerably more than $9.95 or free thanks to a grant from blahblahblah. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I didn't like it

The food was okay. We got a hamburger and fries, and it was all super greasy. However, the service was slow, and the staff was rude. They also wouldn't accept pennies (we were only going to use 5, so it wasn't like we paid in change).

This place is a every-night-karaoke bar, with a great song selection and a good sound system. My only complaint (and it's a big one) is the karaoke host. We were there from 9:30 to midnight, during which time he took 4 breaks, and sang 7 times. My friends and I each sang 5 songs. And he turned away new singers who showed up a half hour before he closed, and then he sang again. Whomever he is working for (the bar? the karaoke business?) needs to straighten him out. Even if he were a paying customer, not an employee, he wouldn't get to jump order. I sing karaoke lots of places and the kj only sings when there are not a lot of singers, and they take their breaks while people sing, not INSTEAD of people singing. Very disappointing.

This review is for the lounge.... I came with my husband and 3 friends for karaoke. It is dark with high ceilings and is not warm or cozy feeling. It is a very large bar, but there is no table service, so you have to order food and drinks from the bar, which was fine. The drinks were standard pricing. We ordered fries and cheese nachos, each was fine. The KJ was good. She did not have updated books, but you can ask for newer songs. The crowd here was mixed... bikers, freshly 21ers, friends on vacation, etc. I would come back, but only on nights that have karaoke.

Excellent in-town cafe/diner/lbar. First thing to know is that almost all the cafes in Lincoln City are also bars/lounges. They are also all non-smolking! Hooray! Which makes the flavor of the food just that much better. I had the most basic meal I could think of -- Fish and Chips lunch -- a little after the normal lunch hour. I would under normal circumstances rate this meal 3 1/2 stars, but since it was after lunch and in the off season -- and I was the only customer -- I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The meal started with a terrific bowl of NE clam chowder. This is my first bowl in the NW -- so maybe this is standard fare. But it was great. Thick, full of yummy, tender clams and potatoes. Just wonderful flavor. And the fish & chips plate was just as good. The batter was light and crispy -- didn't overwhelm the fish -- which must have been swimming earlier in the day. Fries were piping hot and thin as matchsticks -- and the tartar sauce was also yummy. My only complaint was the salad -- which was very fresh -- but the Caesar dressing is very poor. Maybe I should have gone with a simpler dressing choice -- Italian or French or something. But I certainly won't be having the Caesar again. The coffee was a little weak and not quite hot enough -- but I'm a stickler for strong hot coffee. I'll find another beverage in the future. Can't wait to try their breakfast!

Excellent breakfast. Corned beef hash was freshly made with a lot of tasty corned beef (other places it is mostly potatoes and mystery meat). Hash browns very good, not salty and not greasy. Service very good. Interior last updated in the early 60's, very entertaining. Liked it enough to try dinner there (it was walking distance from our hotel) and they did a very good job. Solid traditional American food (we had pork chops with veg and clam chowder, all very good). Great beer selection. Followed up with another breakfast. Still excellent. They do a great job at what they set out to do, which is traditional American food. Not fancy, good value, good service. Not touristy.

Holy moley the fish and chips. After a very disappointing dinner at a pizza place, hitting Maxwell's for lunch was a very welcome treat. We were all starving after a long morning shopping at the outlet mall, and fish and chips were just what we needed. In addition, our server was a no nonsense lady with a good sense of humor, and the people watching from the window we were seated next to was pretty entertaining. (Why is day glo in on the Oregon Coast? I saw kids in Seaside looking like they were ready for a rave, and the same was repeated in Lincoln City.) Good food, fairly simple menu, solid service. The others at my table raved about the chowder being some of the best they've ever had. Will definitely eat here again next time I'm vacationing in Lincoln City.

The waitress was nice and I'd like to say in advance that it seems like she had some problems. I don't know if it was just that the staff before her set her up to fail or if she was the only one on duty and they needed more I have no idea. The waitress was nice but when she was taking our orders we had to remind her that our meals came with soups or salads. They also came with bread but we only got one mini loaf for the entire table and were never offered any more. The salad was kind of sad and wilty. The boys at the table ordered the turkey noodle soup which was on the bland side but was great once we added some salt and pepper. My chicken fried stake was good but incredibly peppery and I'm a girl who likes her pepper. My fiance had steak and ordered it medium well. It was half perfect and the other half overly done. How that happens I have no idea.

Ok it was raining cats and dogs, we were hungry, it's off season and nothing is open later. We found Maxwells and went in, place was near empty but our server was very pleasant. had the Monte Cristo which was very good. Hada nice conversation with server. Food is typical diner type food, not bad but not super either.

  • Katie W.

We stopped in for a late night dinner (they were one of the few places open past 8p). The clam chowder was great and staff was friendly. Our main dishes (steak and chicken fettucini) were just mediocre. We would probably try another late night option before going back.

    (3)
  • Barbara C.

The food was luke warm. The prime rib was bland and blah. The garlic mashed potatoes were not warm either. My companion had some "chicken Fettuccini" that was very thin with lumps of what I can only guess was artificial cheese of some sort that clumped together in mounds in the dish. The clam chowder was very tasty.

Friendly staff, and it had a tavern type feel to it. I had chicken fried steak at 1:30 in the morning and it was surprisingly good. The waitress was very kind there was some loud Karaoke going on in the other room but the singers all sounded great! -SVJ

Stopped in to Maxwell's to celebrate finding 2 glass floats and felt I was celebrating with family. The server, Brian, was friendly and on top of it all. And the fettuccine alfredo was saucy delicious! Would recommend Maxwell's to all who want a great experience all around.

What Maxwell's has down: Chowder. Way better than Mo's Salad. Big and delivered fast. Their dressing is delish and I love a sprinkle of sunflower seeds on my greens. Service. Fast and friendly. I think we've had the same waitress every time we've been here over the last 10 years. Specials. If you can get here for lunch do. $5 dollar specials that will fill you up! The ways in which you realize you are at the beach: Decor. It's dusty, and dated and kinda weird. The seafood. It's fried. It's likely been pulled from a mega huge bulk freezer bag of "mixed sea delights" totally fine stuff but not fresh or quality. The bar/lounge. This area gets mad busy on the weekends for a few reasons. Maxwell's is nearly the only place to eat/go in the main drag of Lincoln City that's open past 8. I can never tell if its locals or beach combers but its always packed. Maxwell's has totally decent breakfast, nice staff and quick service so you may as give them a go.

Stopped in for breakfast late on a Sunday afternoon. No wait for a table. Had an omelette with hash browns and my wife had the breakfast special with French Toast. Both were excellent. My omelette was fluffy and loaded with fillings, her over-easy eggs cooked just right. Nothing was greasy everything very good. A very good choice for a basic American breakfast and priced very reasonably

Rating the Lounge... Great Karaoke! An all around fun time. Good service, good drinks, and the gal running karaoke was super fun and know her music for sure! The food "looked" very uncreative - typical coastal fair. I believe I have eaten here before, but I guess that would go to show you how it DIDN"T stand out.

Should've known when we waited politely in the entry while two staff walked by us without a greeting that the service would not be great. While to food was ok, we waited about an hour for it. It was obvious an owner was helping to get service expedited, but at the end of a long day this place fell short. Bonus experience - we witnessed a dine and dash! Wowsers....

We were hoping to find a cozy place for karaoke during our recent trip to Lincoln City. Our regular place was hosting a band, so we found ourselves at Maxwell's. We prefer a cozier atmosphere (smaller, more attentive staff), and Maxwell's is more spread-out, and feels a bit too open. We enjoyed sitting in a large booth with our friends, and the drink prices were quite reasonable. The karaoke was fun, but I know we were hoping for more updated books/song choices. While we were there, we split some fries & nachos ... both were great! I'm not sure I'd go again for karaoke, but it was a nice place to relax and enjoy drinks with friends.

It was 1 AM on Saturday night in Lincoln City and nothing -absolutely nothing- was open except for the Chinook Wind's casino snack bar, Mexican food drive thru and Maxwell's. I had the shrimp louie salad, which was not bad. The boyfriend had a club sandwich that came with a huge mound of skinny fries (we like skinny fries!) and American cheese (I love American cheese!) I would have given this place a 3-star, but everyone was so nice and pleasant even with the drunks streaming out of the karaoke/bar that it gave this place a towny charm.

  • Karen B.

Very disappointed! Don't waste your time or money on this place. We had the prime rib dinner special and a chicken nacho. Both were terrible. The clam chowder and prime rib were tasteless. The nacho was dry and so over baked the chips (with a sprinkling of cheese) and the chicken cubes were almost painful to swallow. How does this place stay open...maybe locals would settle for this quality of food but i hope travelers try a number of better restaurants in Lincoln City such as Wildflower Grill. Please don't go to Maxwells. It won't be your last meal but it will disappoint you.

Best clam chowder I've ever had in my life, but don't get the crab cakes. They're made with imitation crab meat and the waiter didn't even tell us!

Came in a little late for the prime rib special , our server made sure we got taken care of ! Gave us the last two prime rib it was so good ! We also ordered the calamari and pan fried oysters delicious ! The clam chowder is amazing ! Great serivice ! I'd like to come back for the Thursday special bacon wrapped halibut !

Karokee is a gamble but worth it. If you don't make it out of town after that, the Chicken Fried Steak is World Famous they say and a great breakfast. It is really really good with a bloody mary but I can't vouch for the chicken fried world wide fame.

We were staying at the coast for a nice little getaway. Unfortunately we waited too late one night before deciding to go out to dinner. Everything closes early at the beach. We had heard from several people that we should not eat at Maxwells, but that they are open late. Well, it was 9:15pm and we tried going to the Blackfish Cafe, and they said the kitchen was closed. We then tried Gullucci's pizza and it was closing soon. So we ended up at Maxwells after all. The decor was extremely outdated, reminded me of grandma's dining room or something. My husband and I shared the chicken fettuccine. The dinner salad was good, the fettuccine just okay, and the garlic bread still cold like it had been frozen and heated up. We would have sat in the bar, but they did not offer the same menu, so no real dinner choices in there. The waiter was very nice, but my husband said he looked and acted high on something. Bottom line, if you are hungry late at night or just want a drink, go here! Otherwise go out to eat early someplace nicer!!!

I ate here with my husband last weekend and was very happy with the service and the food. Brian was our waiter and he was funny, prompt and quick to resolve an issue with the food. The food was tasty: I had the razor clams and had ordered garlic mashers with it but was given a baked-potato instead. Brian quickly got me a side of mashers, and sent us home with the baked-potato as an apology. Reasonably priced and charming the in the dining room; I can't say much about the bar as we didn't see it. Could hear karaoke coming from it though (we were there on Friday night). Definitely recommend!

My wife and I were on our way out of town on a Monday about noon and were looking for somewhere to grab some lunch, so we stopped here. We enjoyed the beach-like decor and the staff was really friendly and attentive. She ordered a Rueben and I ordered the Chili Spud. She enjoyed the Rueben and the Chili Spud was okay. (kinda hard to screw up a baked potato). The chili was obviously from a can, which made the dish go from good to just okay. It would have been much better with a home made chili. Overall we would rate this place as average. Nothing really stands out here, but if you want a relatively quick meal the food is okay.

  • Nancy S.

Wonderful wait staff. The freshly made, batter dipped fish and chips were delicious! If you are not a smoker, be sure to sit on the north side of the restaurant. There is evidently a large bar crowd on the south side in the evenings. I am hoping we come back through this town, just to try the fried clam strips.

My arm still hurts....my friends twisted it so hard to get me back to Maxwell's. "Noooooo", I screamed. "Not there!" They actually paid attention to me, so we went to another restaurant.....Oh no, it was closed. Mind you, this was on a Saturday night in January. "No, nooooo, no Maxwells", so we headed to restaurant #2. Oh, don't tell me!!!! Saturday night and restaurant #2 was closed! Ok, now the arm twisting had some merit. Nothing else was open! So, begrudgingly I followed them to Maxwell's. Just like a good tourist, I ordered a cup of clam chowder and fish and chips. The chowder was actually good! A little too thick for me, but the flavor was right on. Hmmm...maybe there's hope after all. Next came the fish and chips. I've got to say, the fish was really pretty good. That was a nice surprise! The chips on the other hand were under cooked and not good. Soooooo, I've upgraded my review by 1 star. If the chips had been good that would have bumped them up another one, but no such luck. Well, if you ever get stuck in Lincoln City on a Saturday night in January, head to Maxwell's. It's the only place open and you can get some pretty good clam chowder and chipless fish.

I've been to Lincoln City probably about 20-30 times in the last 10 years and I'm always on the fence about going to Maxwell's. After the last time there, I think I'm going to stick to the bar side of the joint and have meals elsewhere.

  • Amy D.

Not the best chicken fried steak as they claim. Maybe best in Lincoln city, but that's about it. Waited to be seated for five minutes despite not being very busy. Many workers just standing aroung ignoring us. Hungry, so we stayed. Denver omelet good, but large portions is the American way. mimosas kind of sour, wouldn't recommend.

Great salads. If you're a drinker, ask for a "Gorilla's Ass" - it comes in a caraffe and is equal to two drinks - tastes like a milkshake. DON'T drive after drinking one of these!! Good stuff! Their prices are reasonable and it's a family friendly environment. The bar is on the south side of the building -- restaurant on the north side. Lot's of good stuff to choose from on the menu. Highly recommend.

If you like real clam chowder the way it's supposed to taste, Maxwell's has that mastered. Whenever I get an itch for clam chowder you can bet Maxwell's is at the top of my list. I live locally and try the clam chowder at nearly every restaurant in my never ending quest for the best. So far I've found several good chowders but I just can't get enough of Maxwell's. I sometimes splurge a bit and get the Captains Platter and to be honest, it's good seafood. I don't eat crab cakes though so that is usually left untouched. The atmosphere is relaxed like you might find in a fishing town... at least it fits with the relaxed environment of Lincoln City. Come here in the evening and listen to people singing Karaoke... well at least trying. I find it kind of entertaining myself, at least for a good laugh.

I would give them 3.5 if possible. My parents and sister and I are on vacation in Lincoln City and decided on Maxwell's for dinner tonight. My dad is the only non-vegetarian in the group but didn't want to go to any of the vegetarian-friendly restaurants I found on Yelp. We saw some non-meat options on Maxwell's menu in the phone book so we decided it could work. Ok, on to the review. Eclectic decor, clean and cute bathroom, lots of tables, helpful and friendly staff (only exception was that we did not receive drink refills without asking). The food portion sizes were huge! We ordered onion rings as an appetizer and it was more than the four of us needed. The salads we got with our dinners were great - lettuce, celery, peas and croutons! Yum! My dad said his chowder was good (creamy, plenty of clams and on par with Mo's). My sister and I split the linguine pesto with vegetables. She didn't think it was flavorful enough pesto, but it was pretty much what I was expecting so I liked it. Our mom ordered the linguine alfredo and said it was very good, very nicely flavored and had lots of vegetables. She was very happy with it. Our dad ordered the "edible treasures from the sea" and said it was fine, not bad but not great. He also thought there was too much breading on everything. The biggest problem was that all of our meals came with a surprise side of green beans that were gross. Mushy, overcooked, and with bacon! We ordered a non-meat option with a salad and we got a side with meat in it? What? That didn't make sense to us. But we just didn't eat that part. Maybe without the bacon green beans and with drink refills we could have given Maxwell's 4 stars.

My family and I had dinner here on our first night visiting Lincoln City. The clam chowder was delicious and the halibut was perfectly cooked. It did take a little longer because they had to fillet more fish as they ran out during lunch. My teenager had spaghetti and meatballs (which are homemade) and said it was really good too. The staff were very laid back and friendly but still attentive. I recommend this restaurant to any families wanting a nice casual meal that's not just "fast food."

Where to start? From the outside it looks alright. However once you step inside the smell hits you. It's that greasy, old smell of a place that has been open for far too long. So long that at this point it's only around because it's a lamdmark, not because it offers good food or a good enviornment. We were seated, given menus and left alone. Our waiter came and asked us what we would like, we ordered, one pop, one black coffee and one apple juice. He brought us two pops and an orange juice. We corrected him and he brought us the coffee, saying we wouldn't have to pay for the soda he brought since it was his mistake. Woah! How wonderful. We ordered our food. The amount of time it took to receive our food should have been our third tip to leave (the smell was the first and the incorrect beverage the second). When our food did arrive it was something that looked like it had been picked out of the garbage and served on our plate. My husband ordered a clam and eggs. The clam was old, soggy, greasy and had no flavor, other than the grease bomb that it was. Needless to say ten minutes later he was in the bathroom throwing up this disgusting food. Our son ordered eggs, toast, bacon and hasbrowns. The toast was burned on both his and my husband's order. His bacon was a cheap microwave brand. The hasbrowns were mashed potatos on the inside and crunch on the outside. Now my order, I played it fairly safe and asked for a Swiss burger with fries. The same as my husband's clam, my fries were flavorless and greasy. I have an iron stomach so I was able to get off with only an upset stomach. I can guarantee you we will never, ever return. The food was uneventful, the staff was slow and not very friendly.

Nice staff but the food was HORRIBLE. Blue cheese dressing was like the we're trying to save money and watered it down. Hubby ordered a Philly and none of the veggies were actually sautéed and his bun was mush from who knows what.

Before heading back to that baking inferno frequently referred to as Portland, we decided we wanted to chow on seafood. Blackfish Café would have been our first choice, but it was closed for the day (but I hope not permanently!!). We wanted to find a certain inexpensive seafood place we went to on Easter Weekend in 2004, and thought it was on Logan down by the water, but today we couldn't find it. So we stopped at a hotel and picked up a Chamber of Commerce-type newspaper that listed all the restaurants in Lincoln City. We saw an ad for Maxwell's which showed the menu. The menu seemed OK with reasonable prices. Yes, the ad extravagantly claimed Maxwell's had the best chowder in Lincoln City and that made us think that this was maybe going to be a boring mediocre eatery. But heck, it's just another meal, so we headed over to Maxwell's anyway. We were seated immediately by a much older woman. She was a pro and crisply brought us water and menus and came back shortly to take our orders. JP wisely stuck with the basic fish and chips, while I "boldly" went for a halibut steak. Both of us also ordered the clam chowder. The clam chowder was so-so with an offputting slick texture. Not a lot of clams. I think they substituted salt for the clams. JP couldn't even eat his because of the salt and chose to swill Chardonnay instead. After a not too long wait, our entrees arrived. Actually, JP's fish and chips (at least the fish) were very good. The fish batter had a deep-fried crunchy texture with tender cod on the inside. The style is very similar to the fish at Wally's Chowder House in Des Moines, WA. My halibut was tough and dry. Oh well. But the tarter sauce had a wonderful vibrant flavor. The entrees came with a dish of overcooked green beans. I didn't care for them, but JP actually liked them. Maxwell's is rough around the edges and nothing special, but if you only care about getting some fish and chips, it might be OK.

We came here because I love chicken fried steak and the sign outside said, "famous chicken fried steak". Unfortunately, I immediately noticed hair wrapped up in the gravy and across the plate. We finally got the attention of an employee who somewhat uttered an apology, told us that the cook was bald, so it couldn't be from him. He'd eyed me as I have long hair. I assured him that I hadn't so much as moved once my plate arrived. He removed the plate and I wanted a long time for new food, my family was able to completely finish their meals. We could hear the cook yelling "how did you want the damn eggs" at our waiter though so we knew it was be coming out shortly. We received no other apologies or anything, nor was our bill deducted. We will not return. Deplorable service and food.

We went there for breakfast, not an extensive menu but cheap and filling, didn't wow me, pretty bland.

Yuck. I had the best thing on the menu ... A bunch of fried seafood... And everything tasted normal except for the oysters. The oysters tasted like diseased poison. I seriously fought back vomit. After biting into one and being floored at how gross it was I bit into another to see if it was an abnormality. It tasted identical. I'm still nauseous.
